Library to be open

as voting location

The main branch at the William F. Laman Public Library will be open for voting beginning next month, the library announced Friday.

The library, at 2801 Orange St., will be open from 8 a.m to 6 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays from Oct. 19 to Nov. 2, and from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 3, Election Day.

"Even though our buildings are closed for library business, we are working with the election commission to make in-person voting available to everyone and still maintain a responsible, safe and physically-distanced environment," Laman Library associate director Richard Theilig, said in a news release.

Poll workers will limit the number of people allowed in the building at any given time, he said.

School Board President Dorothy Williams on Sept 17 signed the contract after the board met in executive session.

Pilewski was deputy superintendent of the Queen Anne's County School District in Maryland when he was offered the job last month.

He is expected to take over the new position at the end of the semester.

The other finalists were Keith McGee, interim superintendent of the North Little Rock School District, and John Tharpe, executive director of Hamilton County Schools in Tennessee.
