Entergy recognized for restoring power in severe weather

Entergy Arkansas and its parent company have been recognized by the Edison Electric Institute for swift action to restore power after several severe storms and hurricanes in 2020.

The utility company was commended for its emergency responses to Hurricane Laura and severe thunderstorms last April, and assistance after hurricanes Sally, Isaias and Hanna. Entergy is the only electric company in the country recognized each year since the institute began the award in 1998.

Severe thunderstorms Easter weekend caused widespread damage statewide and interrupted service to 128,000 customers. In late August there was another power outage for 48,000 customers in Arkansas related to Hurricane Laura. While attending to power failures in Arkansas, crews also mobilized to help in Mississippi, Texas and Louisiana.

"Entergy Arkansas linemen and crews are an elite group of skilled pros who are selfless and prepared to serve our customers in often harrowing situations," Entergy Arkansas President and CEO Laura Landreaux said in a statement.

Besides Arkansas, the awards recognize restoration efforts by Entergy Corp.'s operating companies in Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas and New Orleans.
