Police gunfire cited after incident in Little Rock

A Little Rock police officer opened fire on a man armed with an assault rifle after responding to a call Sunday morning, authorities said. No one was injured during the incident.

Police responded to a "disturbance with a weapon call" on the 5700 block of Trenton Lane around 11 a.m. Sunday, according to Assistant Police Chief Crystal Haskins.

Officers arrived at the home and made their way toward a driveway when a man with an assault rifle came into view, authorities said. Police then ordered the man to drop the assault rifle.

The man raised the assault rifle, prompting an officer to open fire, according to police.

The man "released" the assault rifle and was arrested by police, authorities said.

"Since this incident involves an officer discharging a weapon, an internal investigation has begun," Haskins said in a statement. "A separate criminal investigation is also underway."
