Cloyes Norma Marie Conover Pittman

Cloyes Norma Marie Conover Pittman, 82 of Carlisle, passed away peacefully at her home on August 3, 2010. She was the daughter of the late Harvey Bradford and Anastasia Conover of Memphis, Tennessee. Cloyes married Jim Pittman in 1947 and raised three daughters and a son. Cloyes graduated from Messick High School in 1946 and studied nursing while raising her children. She later retired from nursing to spend time with her seven grandchildren. All through her years, she was very involved with her church. She volunteered her time and talents to the Girl Scouts and to the children of Carlisle Elementary School as a math tutor for the 5th and 6th grades. Cloyes received several awards and letters of appreciation including the Carlisle Lions Club Citizen of the Year award for 1994-1995. She was preceded in death by her son, David Gary; her parents; two sisters, Joan Ankney and Clara Brown, and one brother, Harvey Conover, Jr. Survivors include her husband, Jim Pittman; three daughters, Lonnie Howard and husband, Jerry of Elysian Fields, Texas; Lynn Tompkins and husband, Danny of Carlisle and Lezli Johnson of Carlisle; one sister, Betty Joe Stamps and husband, Joe of Memphis, Tennessee; seven grandchildren, Kami Adkins and husband, Scott, Keri Winters and husband, Lonny, Kristi Lang and husband, Doug all of Texas; Garrett Tompkins and wife, Tressa, Paul Johnson and wife, Nicaele, Samantha Tompkins, Lisa Bell and husband, Darin, all of Central Arkansas. Cloyes had 19 great-grandchildren. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday, August 14, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church in Carlisle, Arkansas with Rev. Ryan Rush officiating. The burial will follow at the Hebron Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the First United Methodist Church Life Center Fund or to the Alzheimer's Arkansas Programs and Services, 10411 West Markham, Suite 130, Little Rock, Ark. 72025-1409.
