Joe R. Martin

Joe R. Martin, 85, of Pocahontas died Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at Pocahontas Nursing and Rehab. Joe was born to L.R. and Ona Sallee Martin, July 5, 1925. Joe was an active member of Randolph County, serving as Chairman of the Board for Black River Technical College, CEO/President and Chairman of the Board for Pocahontas Federal S&L, Past President of the Arkansas League of Savings Institutions, President of the South West Conference Savings and Loan League, a Mason, and winner of the first Arkansas League of Savings Institutions Distinguished Service Award. Graveside services will be 2 p.m., Friday, August 27, 2010 at Randolph Memorial Gardens with Rocky Starnes officiating. Joe is survived by his children, Karen Parish of Pocahontas, Skip and Dianne Martin of Jonesboro, four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Jean Olvey of Pocahontas. Mr. Martin is preceded in death by his parents, and wife Joann. There will be a memorial service at First United Methodist Church in Pocahontas at 3 p.m., September 4. Cox Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Randolph county Heritage Museum or Black River Technical College.
