Mary J. Holcombe

Mrs. Mary Holcombe, a long time resident of the Newark area passed away Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at her home after battling cancer. She was born June 5, 1950 in Englewood, New Jersey. She was the daughter of Charlie and Adele Sedergren. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Adele Sedergren. In addition to working as manager of the family violence and prevention resale shop, she and her husband, James Cliff Holcombe worked together raising cattle on their family farm. Mary was an active member of the Hazel Edwards Memorial United Methodist Church. She was instrumental in creating and establishing the Cedar Ridge Helping Hands Food Pantry. Mary loved to travel with her husband and family dearly. She is survived by her husband of twenty-eight years, James Cliff Holcombe of Newark; four sons, Greg and Ricky Holcombe, both of Newark, Russell Pfitzner, of Batesville and Bryon Pfitzner, of Newark; two daughters, Jessica Pfitzner Mirabella, of Jonesboro and Janet Banks, of Newark; two brothers, Charlie and Cliff Sedergren, of Florida and one sister, Vera Rumsay, of New Jersey; ten grandchildren, Shandy Ingles, Mandy Pratt, Chauncey Green, April Holcombe, Chris Banks, Kandess Pfitzner, Carsyn Pfitzner, Kimberly Pfitzner, Ryan Pfitzner and Lucus Pfitzner; three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Hazel Edwards Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Rob Ernest officiating. Interment will be in Holcombe Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, 3-5 p.m. Pallbearers will be Robert Marshal, Michael Talley, Jimmy Talley, Obie Gardner, Keith Gardner, Jerry Marshal, Rick Moss and Jim McDoniel.
