Hubert Loyd "H.L." Ray

Hubert Loyd "H.L." Ray Jr., 66, of Cabot died July 5, 2010 at Beebe Rehabilitation Center in Beebe, Arkansas while recovering from brain surgery and treatment. He was born October 28, 1943 in Lonoke County to the Late Loyd & Wilma Ray. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers Michael "Iky" and Freelyn Ray; a sister Christine Carpenter; a step-daughter Christine Rehbach and a great-grandso,n Jonathan Jackson. H.L. enlisted in the Navy in 1960 and was stationed in San Diego for three years before coming back to Arkansas and working for Missouri Pacific Railroad where he retired in 1981. After retiring, he purchased and operated the Freeway Hickory Pit which later became a private club known as H.L.'s Place. He successfully fought and survived throat cancer in 2001. He celebrated by acquiring an RV to travel the country. Traveling was a favorite pastime which he enjoyed with his family and friends. H.L is survived by his wife of 39 years, Beulah "Boots" Ray as well as his son Buddy Watkins; daughter Katina Ray; two step-sons Bill & David Studer. Also surviving him are sisters Geraldine Horn & Sarah Ray; brothers Terry & Doug Ray. H.L. is survived by nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Friday, July 9, 2010 from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. and the family will receive friends from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be 2 p.m., Saturday, July 10, 2010 at Mt. Springs Baptist Church. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
