Julia Viva Gaston

Julia Viva Gaston, passed away at her home on Monday, June 7, 2010 at 1310 hours. Funeral services will be at Faith Tabernacle Church in Mt. Ida, Ark., on Thursday, June 10, 2010 at 10 a.m. Interment will be in the Gaston community cemetery following the service. Bro. Paul Burke will be the minister and Ronnie Mayberry will present the music. Viva was born in Garland County on Sept. 5, 1917. She has been a resident of Mt. Ida for 60 years. She was a member of Faith Tabernacle Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, John W. and Mary Lydia Lay Wilson; her husband, Waymon Gaston; nine sisters and two brothers. She was the youngest member of the Wilson family. Survivors include seven children, John (Carol) Gaston, Colleyville, Texas, Wanda and (Mack) Rose, Boles, Ark., Juanita and (Doyne) Staton, Carlisle, Ark., Brenda and (Jerry) Smith, Little Rock, Ark., Lonnie and (Karen Gaston (deceased), Coffeyville, Kan., Mary Lou Chambers (Ronnie) of Mt. Ida, Ark., and David Gaston of Mt. Ida, Ark.; 11 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Bea Lovejoy (Gene) of Mt. Ida; plus numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. All that knew Viva knew she was a family person enjoying many wonderful days and times with family and close friends. Her hobbies was sewing and crocheting, winning numerous blue ribbons at the Montgomery County Fair which included many ribbons for cooking and canning. Another favorite hobby, not known by many people outside the family was her love of fishing. Viva's home was a favorite gathering place for family and friends to celebrate birthdays, holidays and special occasions. The number of people was not a problem. She enjoyed every occasion that was held! Pallbearers for the service will be: Brian and Jeremy Staton, Ryan Goodner, Randy Pound, John M. Gaston and Adam Helston. Honorary pallbearers will be: Kelly Gaston Minor, Holly Gaston Helston, LeAnn Rose Pound, Tammy Rose Madden, Anita Rose Black, Alisha Gaston Westervelt, April Gaston Elder, Kim Spurling Gray; and great-grandchildren. Viewing will be at Thornton Funeral Home in Mt. Ida, Ark. on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 starting at 6 p.m. till 7:30 p.m.
