Robert Huchins "Buddy" Landfair

Robert Hutchins "Buddy" Landfair was born February 10, 1927, in McGehee, Arkansas. He passed away suddenly in Little Rock, Arkansas on November 7, 2010 . Buddy grew up in Tillar, Arkansas and graduated from Tillar High School in 1945. He served in the United States Army and Army Air Corps where he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. Buddy was discharged and went to work for several years at the Arkansas Highway Department in Little Rock. He returned to Tillar to run Landfair General Store with his father. When the store closed in the early 1970's, Buddy was a jeweler at Birch Jewelry Store in McGehee and was a substitute rural mail carrier. In 1978, Buddy became the regular mail carrier for Route 1 Tillar, the same route that was established by his father in 1932. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 36 total years of employment. Buddy is the Mayor of Tillar, Arkansas and has held this office for 25 years. He has been a member of the Tillar City Council for 30 years. He is also the President of the Tillar Cemetery Association. He was a volunteer firefighter for many years. Buddy is a lifelong member of the Tillar United Methodist Church and had a variety of church positions throughout the years. Buddy enjoyed cooking, antiquing, drinking coffee with his friends and traveling to visit his grandchildren. After retirement, he was a chef at Nancy's Café in Tillar. Buddy touched many lives and his friendship will be deeply missed. Buddy was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Carol Cherry Landfair, his brother, James Ballard Landfair and his parents, Hutch and Sadie Landfair. He is survived by two daughters, Cherry Landfair Goldsholl and husband David of Little Rock, Stacy Pomeroy and husband Michael of Clarksville, Tennessee, two grandchildren, Logan Pomeroy and Amy Pomeroy, two brothers, Gerald Landfair and wife Wilene of Richardson, Texas and Tommy Landfair and wife Barbara of Little Rock. Visitation will be held on November 10, 2010 at Griffin Funeral Home in Dumas from 5 pm to 7 pm. Services will be at Tillar United Methodist Church on November 11, 2010 at 11 a.m. with burial at Tillar Cemetary. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tillar United Methodist Church, PO Box 85, Tillar, Ark. 71670.
