Jane Swindle Whittington

Jane Swindle Whittington, age 84, died Novembers 20, 2010 at Mount Ida, Ark. She was born on November 17, 1916 to the late Sol and Nina Swindle. A graduate of the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville in 1947, she began her teaching career. She was a renowned retired high school teacher with a combined total of 45 years service for Mount Ida, Anchorage, Alaska and Caddo Hills School Districts. She was a faithful member of the Mount Ida United Methodist Church since 1940. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill D. Whittington and her brother and sister-in-law, Dale and Toogie Swindle. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Steve Whittington (Sally) and Joe Whittington (Gladys) of Carrollton, Texas, three grandchildren, Emily, Grant and Tyler, her sister, Beverly Campbell, and several nieces and nephews. Jane loved reading and the library was her passion. She served as President of the Friends for the Montgomery Co. Library for more than 25 years. Upon her request there will be no funeral. Memorials can be made to the Friends of the Montgomery Co. Library, P.O. Box 189, Mount Ida, Ark. 71957. Thornton Funeral Home is in charge of cremation.
