Mr. Mark Hawkins Jr., 72 of Parkdale, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010 in Mandeville, La. Mr. Hawkins was a native and life long resident of Parkdale. He graduated from Wilmot High School and he graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1961 with a Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture. He was a farmer and cattleman for 25 years and owner of Parkdale Chemical Company from 1986 to 1999. He was the Parkdale Volunteer Fire Department Fire Chief for 15 years, Constable for deBastrop Township and Parkdale City Alderman. He was a member of Parkdale School Board for 23 years, serving as president of the school board when Parkdale consolidated with Hamburg. He was a lifelong member of Parkdale United Methodist Church having served as a lay leader for many years and was the Chairman of the Administrative Board for 34 years. He was a Mason and a member of the Portland Masonic Lodge No. 499. He is preceded in death by his parents, Frances Brame and Mark Hawkins Sr. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Hazel Barksdale Hawkins of Parkdale; two daughters, Charlotte Leigh Armfield of Hattiesburg, Miss. and Carol Ann Liles and husband, Dr. A.C. Liles III, of Covington, La.; two grandchildren, Ainsley Claire Liles and Avery Caitlin Liles. Funeral services are 10 a.m., Monday, September 6, 2010 in the chapel of Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Parkdale Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.
