Bernice Hawkins, 81, of Mount Vernon died Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010. She was born July 30, 1929 in Mount Vernon to the late W. C. "Bill" Leach and Jewel Alta Beckett Leach. She was a homemaker, member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church and the widow of Carroll Hawkins. She is survived by two sons, Eddie Hawkins and wife Pat of Naylor and Byron Hawkins of Mount Vernon; daughter Lori Case of Conway; sister, Montene Skaggs of Conway; brother Billy Jack Leach of Conway; four grandchildren, Crissy Berry, Heather Oaks, Jordan Case and Taylor Hawkins; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Reva Cook and two brothers, Harold and Shelton Leach. Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday Sept. 14, 2010 at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with burial in Mt. Vernon Cemetery with Rev. Bill Griffith and Rev. Jake McCandles officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Piano fund at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. Pallbearers are Jimmy and Keith Leach, Steve Hawkins, Jimmy Louis Hawkins, Larry Garrison, Bill Wilcox, Paul Brewer and George Baker.
