Sister Mary Jane Fladung

Sister Mary Jane Fladung, 87 of St. Scholastica passed away Wednesday, September 22, 2010 in Olathe, Kansas. She entered St. Scholastica Convent as a postulant, August 28, 1938. She made her first profession of religious promised June 24, 1941, and began her career of teaching in Arkansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma. In 1969 Sister Jane was among the founding members from St. Scholastica who started a new monastic community in Columbia, Missouri and in 1976 became a Vista Volunteer and co-founder of Koinonia House, a place for women in crisis situations. Vespers for the dead will be7:30 PM Friday September 24, 2010 at St. Scholastica Monastery Chapel in Fort Smith, Arkansas. The funeral mass will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday September 25, 2010 at St. Scholastica Monastery Chapel. Burial will follow at St. Scholastica Cemetery in Fort Smith. Arrangements are under the direction of Fentress Mortuary of Fort Smith. Sister Jane is survived by two sisters, Margie Korts and Rosemary Hogan both of Ottawa, Kansas and two brothers; Gene Fladung of Lewisburg, Kansas and John Fladung of Olathe, Kansas; many nieces and nephews and her religious community. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and one brother. In lieu of flowers please make memorials to St. Scholastica Monastery, P.O. Box 3489, Ft. Smith, Ark. 72913.
