Edward Ray Teeter

Edward Ray Teeter, 83, of San Marcos, Texas passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at the Regent Care Center of San Marcos due to complications from Parkinson disease. Edward was born on February 19, 1928, in Tonkawa, Oklahoma to Virginia Adams Teeter and Ray Teeter. Upon graduation from high school he served in the United States Navy. After attending Arkansas State Teacher's College Ed began his career coaching. He received a Masters Degree from the University of Arkansas and then served as a high school principal in Dumas, Arkansas and superintendent of schools in Eudora, Arkansas moving to Little Rock he began eight years of service as Executive Director of the Arkansas School Board Association. Following this he owned and operated Teeter Family Steakhouse in Clarksville, Ark. He later returned to education as Superintendent with the Paragould School District in Paragould, Arkansas where he retired. Later he and Nancy moved to San Marcos, Texas to be close to family. He was a member of the First Methodist Church of San Marcos. As a state leader in education Ed was honored by the Arkansas Association of Educational Administrators and the Southern Region School Board Association for his leadership and dedication to education. Ed was active in the various the communities he lived in serving on church boards and committees. He was president of the Paragould Chamber of Commerce. His dedication to sports led him to serve on the board of directors of the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame. While some of Ed's best times were spent coaching and watching a football game he also loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and especially a round of golf with friends. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Nancy Lake Teeter of San Marcos, daughter, Barbara Johnson and her husband Malcolm Johnson, grandchildren, Edward Johnson and wife Angie, Collins Johnson and wife Janna and Evelyn Johnson, four great-grandchildren and sister, Elaine Hudson and husband Fred of Harrison, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his father Ray Teeter, mother Virginia "Wade" Alexander and brother Bob Teeter. We would like to thank the staff at Regent Care Center and CTMC Hospice for their support and care for both Ed and Nancy during this time. Memorials may be sent to the National Parkinson Foundation, Gift Processing Center, P.O. Box 5018, Hagerstown, Md. 21741-5018. Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m., Thursday, April 14, 2011, at San Marcos City Cemetery.
