Alice Gibbons

Alice Gibbons of Ozark, Ark., died Saturday, Aug. 6, 2011 in Little Rock, Ark. She was born July 20, 1925 in Plumerville to Reverend J.M. and Nora Dixon Barnett. She attended Ozark High School and graduated in 1946 from Hendrix College with a bachelor's degree in music. On April 18, 1947 she married Dr. D.L. Gibbons and they remained very happily married until his death in 2008. She was a faithful and active member of the Ozark United Methodist Church, where she played the piano for many years. She is also remembered for many years as a Sunday school and leader within the church. She taught for many years in the Ozark Elementary School and was a proud and active member of the Auxiliary of the Arkansas Medical Society and Turner Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Monday, Aug. 8, 2011 at First United Methodist Church in Ozark with burial at Highland Cemetery in Ozark, Ark., under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home. She is survived by two sons, David L. Gibbons Jr. and wife Iva Nell of Clarksville, Ark., and James W. Gibbons and wife Julia of Stuttgart; eight grandchildren, David L. Gibbons III and wife Rebecca, Jennifer Carrie Forand and husband David, Andrew Richard Gibbons, Nora Elizabeth Gibbons, Jamie Shea and husband Ben, Jeremy Gunn and wife Emily, Jessie Stillwell and husband Nathan, and Eli Gunn and wife Kesha; 13 great-grandchildren, Dylan, David Anthony, Rebekah, Jackie, Tori, Bridger, Jaxson, Savannah, Eliza, Greyson, Marley and Noah. Pallbearers are Mike Gibbons, Andrew Gibbons, Dylan Gibbons, Anthony Gibbons, Johnny Maxwell and David Gibbons III.
