Mary Eugenia Pellin

Sister Mary Eugenia Pellin of McAuley Convent and Retirement Residence, Barling, Ark. died August 8, 2011. Sister was born April 21, 1916 in Tontitown, Arkansas and baptized Clare Theresa Pellin. Her parents were Rose Marie Rosa and Edward Pellin. Sister Mary Eugenia entered the Sisters of Mercy Community in September 1937 and made her first vows August 6, 1940. She did her college work and obtained graduate degrees in Education and in Library Science from Incarnate Word College and Our Lady of the Lake College in San Antonio, TX. Sister M. Eugenia ministered in public, private, and parochial schools in Arkansas, Sikeston, Missouri, and Mission, Texas. Her early ministries were as an elementary teacher and principal for eight years. She spent a brief interval working in hospital accounting in Brinkley, Ark. and in 1966 as librarian of St. Anne's Academy in Fort Smith until it closed eight years later. She served 16 years as librarian at Mount St. Mary's Academy, Little Rock, Ark. then as archivist for Mount St. Mary Convent until October 30, 1999 when she retired to McAuley Convent and Retirement Residence, Barling, Ark. Sister Mary Eugenia is survived by her sister Florence Rosso of Penn Valley, CA and several nieces and nephews. The Rosary will be at McAuley Convent Chapel at 9 a.m., Thursday, August 11th. The Funeral Mass will be in the McAuley Convent Chapel at 10 a.m., Thursday, August 11. Sister will be buried at Calvary Cemetery in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
