Homer Hale Jackson

HOMER HALE JACKSON slipped away to his heavenly home on Nov. 29, 2011, from the Premier Health Nursing Home in North Little Rock where he had fought a long battle against multiple sclerosis. Homer was born in Camden, Ark., on May 28, 1938. He was a child prodigy pianist by age 10. Appointed as a page in Congress by Oren Harris, he graduated from high school in Washington, D.C. He continued his music education at Oklahoma Baptist University, then at the University of Oklahoma, and finally at Northwestern University. He was world renowned pianist and organist. In his high school and college days, he played the piano in many Baptist Churches and was used extensively as a gospel pianist in evangelistic crusades. Later he served as organist and choir master in larger churches in LaGrange, Ill.; Salisbury, Md.; and Grand Rapids, Mich. He was preceded in death by his parents, L.P. and Ruby Jackson, and by two brothers, Pat Jr. and Billy Ray Jackson. He is survived by two brothers, Johnny Jackson, of Little Rock, and Jimmy Jackson, of Elkridge, Md., and one sister, Zada Jackson, of Little Rock. At his request, his body was donated to the Genesis Foundation in Memphis as an organ donor and for medical research in the multiple sclerosis disease. A memorial service will be held in the Park Hill Presbyterian Church, 3520 JFK Blvd., in North Little Rock on Thursday night, Dec. 8 at 7 p.m.
