Grover Leon Farmer

Grover Leon Farmer, 85, of Stuttgart died Friday, December 2, 2011. Leon was a district superintendent of Arkansas Power and Light for 40 years. Leon was born October 23, 1926, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Ruth and Lord Byron Farmer and moved to Arkansas as a child. He graduated from Smackover High School in Smackover, Arkansas and served in the United States Navy during World War II. He joined AP&L in 1947 and worked at the company's facilities in Pine Bluff. In 1966, he became foreman of the AP&L facilities at DeWitt, and in 1968 came to Stuttgart as distribution superintendent and in 1978 became district superintendent. Leon was a Master Mason of Euclid Lodge #130 in Stuttgart for 48 years, a 32-degree Scottish Rite Mason and a York Rite Mason, Pine Bluff. Leon was also a Shriner and a member of the Eastern Star. He was also a Knight Mason in Pine Bluff and Past Master of Euclid Lodge #130. Besides his parents, Leon was preceded in death by a daughter, Debbie Shelton of Stuttgart; son, David Farmer of Wynne; and a sister, Peggy Lancaster of Pine Bluff. Survivors include daughter, Celia (Matt) McCorkindale of Stuttgart; son, Cliff Famer of El Dorado; seven grandchildren, Marty (Brian) O'Neill of Franklin, Tennessee, David Lynn (Glaucia) Farmer Jr. of Roswell, Georgia, Bradley Farmer and Allison Farmer of El Dorado, and Megan McCorkindale, Joshua McCorkindale and Leigh (Paul) Esquivel, all of Stuttgart; three great-grandchildren, Madeline and McKenna O'Neill and Julian Farmer; and a very special person, Carol Ann Smith (Jason). Leon enjoyed hunting and fishing, family and grandkids. He was also a member of Stuttgart Lions Club and a faithful member of Big 10 Hunting Club.
