Norman Melvin Cole

Norman Melvin Cole, 88, of Paragould, passed away Sunday, December 4, 2011, at his residence. Born October 28, 1923, in Greene County, he was a Navy veteran of World War II. Mr. Cole was a formerly an employee of the Arkansas Highway Department, a carpenter and the Greene County Veterans Service Officer. Mr. Cole was an active member and former commander of the American Legion, a member of the Forty and Eight, the V.F.W. and other veterans' organizations. He was a member of the Second and Walnut Church of Christ. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Norman and Ann Batey; two grandchildren and their spouses, Kelly and Stephanie Batey Emmert of Albany, Oregon, and Leigha and Shaun Roleson of Paragould. He is also survived by three great grandchildren, Brittian, Reese, and Micha Roleson of Paragould. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roger and Lucy Cole; and his wife, Emma Jean Cole. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould. Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m., Thursday, December 8th, in Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Phil Wilkerson officiating.
