Verna C. Dokey, 98, of Hot Springs passed away Friday, December 9, 2011. She was born February 15, 1913 to the late Charles Thomas and Nancy Elizabeth Callaway in Fendley, Arkansas. Mrs. Dokey grew up in Arkadelphia and graduated from Arkadelphia High School and Henderson State Teacher's College; she earned a Master's degree at University of Arkansas; she began her teaching career of 44 years at Amity, Arkansas with the latest 25 years at Hot Springs Junior High School; she was an active member of First United Methodist Church where she was a life time board member; a member of United Methodist Women's; a member and past president of XYZ; a life member of Arkansas Education Association; member and past president of Garland County Teachers Association; a life member and past president of Delta Kappa Gamma. She was predeceased by her parents, Chas & Nancy Callaway; her husband, Vernon Dokey; one sister, Clara B. Matassarin and three brothers, Foy Callaway, L.C. Callaway and James Callaway. She is survived by two brothers, Stell Callaway and Charles T. Callaway and ten loving nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday at Hot Springs Funeral Home. Memorial Services will be 1:30 p.m., Sunday at the Starlite Room at Country Club Village with Reverend Bud Reeves officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Arkadelphia with John Miles officiating. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church. Arrangements are by Hot Springs Funeral Home.
