Hallie O'Neel Ross

Hallie O'Neel Ross, age 95, of Star City, died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff. Mrs. Ross was born June 13, 1916, in Lincoln County, Ark., a daughter of the late John and Lela Vick O'Neel. Mrs. Ross was reared and received her education in Star City, graduating from Star City High School. She also attended Arkansas A&M College (now University of Arkansas at Monticello) for two years. She taught school in Lincoln County from 1936 to 1938. She lived in Dermott from 1948 to 1963, when she moved to Pine Bluff. She was a past member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Pine Bluff, where she taught Sunday school and a current member of Cornerville Missionary Baptist Church near Star City. She was also a member of the David O. Dodd Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Mrs. Ross was preceded in death in 1993, by her husband, Thomas M. Ross, whom she married Nov. 18, 1938, in Star City, and a sister, Hazel Browning. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Marshall C. and Linda Ross, of North Little Rock, J. T. and Linda Ross, of Star City; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Graveside services will Monday, Dec. 12, 2011, at 11 a.m., in the Newton Chapel Cemetery, Highway 11 South, near Star City by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors with Reverend Byron Vance and Dr. James Morris officiating. The family will receive friends at the Cornerville Missionary Baptist Church immediately following the service.
