Charles D. Bourland

Mr. Charles D. Bourland, age 78, of Joplin, Mo., formerly of Anna went to be with our savior The Lord Jesus Christ on December 9, 2011 at the Freeman East Hospital in Joplin, Mo. He was born in Dongola, Ill. Sept 29, 1933, the son of Harvey Evert and Motell Cook Bourland. He married Peggy Sue Brimm on March 22, 1958 and enjoyed over 53 years of love raising his family. Charles proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1953 to 1957 and was in the Navy Reserves until 1961. He graduated from southern Illinois University in 1962 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in marketing. Charles was Superintendent for the Illinois Department of Public Aid in Union County from 1962 until December 1991. He received numerous awards on behalf of his working family at the office. He was about helping people who were struggling through grinding poverty and were in need of public assistance. Charles forever had a passion for fishing, golfing, bowling, and being with his family. Serving and supporting his family was his primary goal in life. He was active in Kiwanis and Khoury League in Anna for many years He is survived by his wife Peggy Bourland of, Joplin, Mo.; one daughter, Amy (Toby) Clemons and her family of Joplin, Mo.; one son, Kevin (Mary) Bourland and family of Rogers, Ark.; one brother, Hubert, of Redwood City, Calif.; two sisters, Joann Dillow, of Fairview Heights, Ill. and Wilda Adams, Plainwell, Mich.; seven grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral service for Mr. Charles D. Bourland will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna with Rev. Jimmy Keller officiating. Interment will be in the Casper Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted at the graveside by the Carroll P. Foster Post #3455 of the V.F.W. in Anna and the Military Funeral Honors Team in Marion. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, December 12, 2011 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna.
