Elizabeth Cornish Haltom

Elizabeth Cornish Haltom, 94, went to her heavenly home on December 20, 2011, at Life Touch Hospice in El Dorado, Arkansas. She was a lifelong resident of Prescott and her desire was to remain in Prescott, but declining health required her to move closer to her daughter. She became a resident of Dudneywood Assisted Living in Magnolia, living there for four years, and later moved to Life Touch Hospice Center in El Dorado. Elizabeth was born April 7, 1917, in Prescott, Arkansas. She was the daughter of the late John Dunlap "Doc" Cornish and Abbie Newton Cornish. She was married to her high school sweetheart, Frank Garland Haltom, Jr., for 45 years, who preceded her in death in 1984. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Aliene Cornish McGinnis, and a brother, Wayne Cornish. Elizabeth attended Hendrix College in Conway and later transferred to LSU where she received a degree in Home Economics. This degree led her into 17 years of teaching service at Prescott High School. She was a member of local, state, and national teacher organizations. She was active in her community, working on many activities. She loved her community and was awarded the Prescott Chamber of Commerce Treasure of Gold Award in 2003 for her civic mindedness and her desire to promote Prescott and its people. She was an active member of the D.A.R., enjoyed playing bridge with her many friends, and was a member of the Rose Garden Club. Hospitality was one of her God given gifts. She loved people, making them feel comfortable, loved, and genuinely cared for. Her home was always open, the coffee pot was on, and she made time for all who came to her door. Elizabeth was truly a southern lady. Elizabeth loved her God, her family, her friends, and her community. She faithfully served her church in all areas where service called. She was an active member of the United Methodist Women, The Sheperd's Pie Mission for newcomers to Prescott United Methodist Church, and was involved in the preparation of the needlepoint Altar Kneelers. Anywhere her church needed her, she became a servant, including helping those who needed shelter when weather conditions stopped traffic on the interstate. She is survived by two daughters, Pat Lumsden and husband Eddie, of DeWitt, and Carolyn Pry and husband David, of Emerson; five granddaughters, Stephanie Bradley and husband Steven, of Dewitt, Laura Lumsden of Little Rock, Jennifer Gill and husband Rick, of Stuttgart, Shannon Mosley and husband Lance, of Longview, Texas, and Dana Ainsworth and husband Chris, of Mount Holly; eight great-grandchildren, Amanda Bradley, Kristin Bradley, Maggie Gill, Halie Erwin, Morgan Gill, Bailey Mosley, Megan Mosley, and Alley Ainsworth; she is survived also by a dear niece, Martha Marilyn McGinnis Moore and husband Bill, of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
