Lorena Mae (Griffis) Markley passed away December 27, 2011, due to acute renal and respiratory failure. Born April 24, 1916,in Morenci, Arizona, she grew up and lived most of her life in Harrison, Arkansas, with the last 12 years in Little Rock. Lorena joined in heaven her mother, Effie Cash Dees Johnston; father, Bervin Griffis; husband, Walter Aaron Markley, and twin brothers, Kenneth and Kern Griffis. She is survived by one daughter, Cheryl Darlene Markley Dees-Zukoski (Michael Zukoski),a "grand" daughter, Donya Darlene Dees, and one "great" granddaughter, Savannah Nicole Dees, all of Little Rock, as well as extended friends and family. Although Lorena's chosen career was one of wife, mother, and grandmother, she always had a passion for fashion design which manifested itself through the beautiful handiwork she crafted for her family. Whether Lorena experienced happy or sad times throughout the years, her profound faith in God never wavered, so it was not surprising that at the end of her time on earth, she simply whispered, "Take my hand, Precious Lord." In this Holy season and always, we know our Mother (Grandma Rena) rests happily in the arms of her sweet Savior. "Well done, good and faithful servant." Visitation at Holt Memorial Chapel, Harrison, Ark., 5-6 p.m., Thursday, December 29, 2011. Funeral service will be Friday, December 30, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Harrison. The Rev. Jane Huffstetler will officiate. Burial will be at Maplewood Cemetery. Memorials Contributions can be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Harrison or the Second Presbyterian Church in Little Rock, or just offer a bit of kindness to another.
