Carol Rozzell Cheek, 72, of Little Rock, passed away Sunday, January 30, 2011. She was born June 22, 1938 in Little Rock, Arkansas. to the late Forrest and Agnes Rozzell. She was a 1956 graduate of Little Rock Central High and attended Little Rock Junior College and the Arkansas State Teachers College. For 36 years Carol actively served alongside her husband, Ambassador James R. Cheek, at U.S. Embassy diplomatic postings in Chile, London, Brazil, Nicaragua, Uruguay, Nepal, Ethiopia, Sudan and Argentina, as well as at the State Department in Washington, D.C.. She worked tirelessly to support United States interests and help the communities in which she lived. In 1997 Carol and James returned home to Little Rock to be with their family, which was the abiding love of her life. She is survived by her husband of 53 years; daughter, Leesa Ferguson and sons Forrest and Surya, all of Little Rock; sisters, Betty Rozzell of Kansas City and Joyce Harper of Chatsworth, Calif.; granddaughters, Mallory Ferguson and Alexandria Cheek and grandson James Cheek. The family will receive friends at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home (501) 224-8300 from 11 a.m. until 12 noon, Wednesday, February 2, followed by a brief celebration of life service.
