Norma Sims (White) Arnold

Norma Sims (White) Arnold, born Feb. 6, 1927, passed Jan. 30, 2011. Born in Crossett, Ashley County, Arkansas, Norma Grace was the youngest of six children born to Joseph Wayne and E. Margaret Pippen Sims, all predeceased. She graduated from Arkansas High School in Clark County, Arkansas in 1944, although she had entered Henderson State Teachers College during the second semester of her senior year. At Henderson she majored in Business, pursued music studies and was Arkansas State College Women's Tennis Champion. In 1947 she married Hugh Lawson White II of Jackson, Tennessee. They had one son, Robert Wayne. A Methodist, she was a Sunday School Teacher, member of the Choir and church committees and pursued Bible Studies. After the death of her husband in 1969, she married Howard B. Arnold Jr., Lt. Col. USAF (Ret), USMA Class of 1947, a friend from high school. They resided on the 5A Ranch which became a tree farm. She and her husband served as Co-Chairman of the Clark Co. 1976 Bicentennial Committee. Member of the Clark County Historical Association, she was a researcher, writer, co-editor of the Association's Journal over the years and donor to the "Encyclopedia of Arkansas History and Cultures." As a secretary to plant engineers and plant managers at Reynolds Metals Co. she retired after 20 years. In 1996 the Arnolds moved to the Towers in San Antonio, Texas. Survivors include: H.B Arnold Jr., Robert W. and Cherri White, Arkansas, Gordon B. and Gail Arnold, Andrea D. Arnold, Henry M. and Nancy M. Arnold, Texas and Kathryn and Michael Spriggs, England. Following cremation, a private family service will be held with interment at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery Columbarium.
