Thayer "Terry" Sawrie

Thayer (Terry) Sawrie, 91, of Little Rock, received her promotion to eternal life February 1, 2011. She was born at Sidney, Ark. to the late Elbert Story and Bernice Montgomery Story. Also preceding her in death is an infant sister. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, C.R. Sawrie, a son, Michael Sawrie and wife Mimi of Lamonte, Mo. A grandson, Travis Sawrie and wife Mary, a sister, Helen Porterfield of Hemphill, Texas, a sister-in-law, Betty Sawrie of North Little Rock and several nieces and nephews. As well as many special friends and neighbors. Terry attended Batesville College, now Lyon College, at Batesvile and ASTC now University of Central Arkansas in Conway. Her professional career included the War Production Board in Washington, D.C. during WWII, Arkla in Shreveport, La., White County Welfare Department, a medical secretary at Searcy and she was a secretary at the First Church of the Nazarene in Little Rock for more than 20 years. She was an active member of her church in Searcy and in Little Rock, having served as a teacher, a supervisor of a senior adult department and a choir member and soloist. She was a member of the board and a secretary of the South Arkansas District Missions Council and served as delegate to three Quadrennial International Missionary Conventions for Church of the Nazarene. Terry was proficient in grammar and in writing. Her hobbies were gardening, especially roses, and collecting antique glassware. Visitation will be 2-3:30 p.m., Sunday, February 6, 2011 at Griffin Leggett Healey and Roth 5800 W. 12th St Little Rock, Ark. 501-661-9111 with the funeral service at 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 7th at First Church of the Nazarene, 1200 N. Mississippi, Little Rock, Ark., Dr. Jim Daniel and Dr. Dan Casey officiating. Entombment will follow in Rest Hills Memorial Park.
