William Doyle Metcalf

William Doyle Metcalf, age 86, of Harrison, Ark., died Feb. 1, 2011, at the John L. McClellan Memorial Veterans Hospital in Little Rock, Ark. He was born in Perry, Ark., on Oct. 6, 1924, to Henry Harrison and Eva Mae Cook Metcalf. He was married to the love of his life, Doris Ruth Gentry Metcalf, for 65 years. At the age of 18 he was drafted into the U.S. Navy and served his country honorably in WWII. After discharge from the U.S. Navy, he later enlisted into the U.S. Army in 1951 and served during the Korean War. He is survived by his wife, Doris Ruth Metcalf of the home; four children, Brenda Shockey, Brian Metcalf, Bill Metcalf all of Oregon and Kathy Simon of Harrison, Ark.; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and one sister. He was preceded in death by his son, Roger Metcalf; his parents; three sisters and one brother. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011, at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home in Harrison, Ark., with Jerry Farmer officiating. A visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9 at the funeral home. Interment will be in Mary Mother of God Cemetery in Harrison, Ark. Arrangements are by Roller-Christeson Funeral Home.
