Freddie Lee May of Sheridan, Ark. was born Dec. 22, 1936 in Sheridan, the son of the late Victor Dow May Sr. and Bertha Elizabeth McCool May. He was a member of Lost Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Sheridan. He was a United States Army Korean War Veteran, was a retired tower crane operator and had operated heavy equipment most of his life. He enjoyed deer and turkey hunting and raising cattle on his farm. Freddie, or "Deacon" as some called him, had coached softball for years as his girls were growing up and was a part of the "Round Table Club" of coffee drinkers. Freddie's greatest joy in life was spending time with his family. His three daughters were the apple of his eye and they gave him five grandsons, who he loved spending time and making memories with. Freddie died Friday, Feb. 11, 2011 at his home, surrounded by his family, at the age of 74. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Victor Dow May Jr. and Jimmy Dale May. Survivors: Daughters, Vickie and husband Mark Ray of Sheridan, Mickie and husband Leon Fleming of Sheridan, Buffie and husband Mike Mayo of Sheridan; brothers, Billy Van May of Sheridan, Winfred "Winkie" May of Norphlet; five grandsons, Tanner Ray, Bodie Stane, Tyler Mayo, Hayden Ray and Spencer Mayo, Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011 at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home chapel with Bro. Michael Walton and Bro. Kenneth Click officiating. Burial will follow at Lost Creek Cemetery. Visitation: 6 until 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
