Alberta Marie Tucker

Alberta Marie Tucker of Russellville, formerly of Dumas, Ark., died Feb. 18, 2011, at Stella Manor Nursing Center. She was born June 27, 1923, at Grenada, Miss., to Robert Layton Newkirk and Nellie Ada (Peterman) Newkirk. She retired from Merchants and Farmers Bank of Dumas as an assistant vice president where she worked 30 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Dumas where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Roberta Hokanson of Memphis, Tenn.; a sister, Martha Grace Wood of Memphis; her first husband, James Milton Robertson also of Dumas; a son, Jerome Thomas Robertson of Dumas; her second husband, John William Tucker of Dumas; and a daughter, Anita (Tucker) Deshon of England, Ark. Survivors include sons, James Milton (Jimmy) Robertson and wife, Michiko of Meridianville, Ala., and John Layton Robertson and wife, Renee of Fishers, Ind.; twin daughters, Judy Ann Glazier and husband, Richard of Edmond, Okla., and Janice Lynn Howerton and husband, Ronnie of Russellville, Ark.; a daughter, Sandra (Tucker) Partridge and husband, Dr. Lewis Partridge of Benton, Ark.; 15 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Jerome (Jerry) Robertson, Matthew Howerton, Wesley Howerton, Adam Howerton, Jon Mathis and Wade Partridge. Visitation will take place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011, at Griffin Funeral Home in Dumas. The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 21, 2011, at First Baptist Church in Dumas with burial in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Helena, Ark. Arrangements are provided by Griffin Funeral Home of Dumas. Donations in lieu of flowers can be directed to First Baptist Church of Dumas.
