Mary Sue Pledger

After a 12-year battle with breast cancer, Mary Sue Richardson Pledger, 80, our beloved wife and mother, and grandmother, entered her heavenly home on Friday, Feb. 25, 2011. She was born in Conway County, Ark., on Nov. 20, 1930 to the late H L and Opal Helen Townsley Richardson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Michelle Pledger. Mary was an amazing woman who devoted her life to caring for others. Born during the depression, the oldest of 7 children, Mary began her care-giving role at an early age. Lisa, Mary's youngest child, born in 1969, with numerous birth defects, was given the life expectancy of 5–6 years. With Mary's loving care, Lisa lived 39 years, though completely bedridden. Mary was a member of the Hwy 367 Church of Christ in Austin. Mary is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Herbert Pledger of Lonoke, three daughters, Lyn (Bennie) Hicks of Austin, Ark., Kasey (George) Dobson, of Lonoke, Kat (Gerald) Harrelson of Beebe and one son, Steve (Renee) Pledger of Lonoke, eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; five sisters, Melba Brown of Sherwood, Lois Smith of Texas, Jean Strickland of Greers Ferry, Jo Rowe of Stuttgart, Paula Hosto of Ulm, and one brother, Don Richardson of Oklahoma, along with numerous family and friends. Visitation will be held, 6–8 p.m., Monday at Boyd Funeral Home with services in the Boyd Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, March 1, at 2 p.m.. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. The family would like to thank their many wonderful friends, Dr. Tom Sneed and Staff, and Arkansas Hospice for their wonderful care.
