Herschel W. Payne

Herschel W. Payne, age 88, of Oppelo, Ark., passed away Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011. He was born June 6, 1922, in Hattieville, Ark., a son of Thomas "Tommy" Payne and Ollie Francis Reaves. Herschel was a lifetime cattle rancher and retired professional truck driver, member of Morrilton First Baptist Church, Arkansas Cattlemen's Association, Oppelo Fire Department (retired), VFW, 32nd degree Mason with the Masonic Lodge 105 of Morrilton, and former Mayor of Oppelo. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Margaret Jackson Payne of Morrilton; sons, Larry Payne of Tennessee and John Payne (Kim) of Oppelo; daughter, Lisa Ninman of Conway; sisters, Helen Marie Boyer of Lee's Summit, Mo., and Hazel Baker of Morrilton; grandchildren, Rusty Payne (Michelle) of Russellville, Chris Payne (Brittany) of Conway, Travis W. Payne (Karrie) of Oppelo, Kevin Huddleston of Maumelle, Tiffany Atkinson (Travis) of Sardis, Ashley Payne of Oppelo, Courtney Barriga (Cody) of Searcy, Lee Millsap (Karra) of Conway, and Shelby Millsap of Vilonia; great-grandchildren, Faith and Ryder Payne both of Russellville, Gage and Riley Payne both of Conway, Karlee Millsap of Conway, Jessa Huddleston of Morrilton, and Addisen Payne of Oppelo. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011, at the Harris Chapel with Dr. Bill Brown officiating. Burial will be at Wolf Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.
