John Allen Hartness

John Allen Hartness, age 61, of Campbell, Missouri, formerly of Dermott, died Sunday, January 9, 2011, at Landmark Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. He was born April 8, 1949, in Dermott, Arkansas, the son of Elmer F. Hartness and Martha Alexander Hartness. He attended school in Dermott and was in the graduating class of 1967. He was a grain elevator manager for Cargill retiring after 38 years, a sales representative for Schaeffer Oil in St. Louis for several years and he and his wife, Gay, owned and operated of a cutting horse ranch in Campbell, Missouri. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Dermott. He was preceded in death by his father, Elmer F. Hartness. Survivors are his mother, Martha Hartness of Monroe, Louisiana; his wife, Gay Dunn Hartness of Campbell, Missouri; a daughter, Kathy Gregg of Dermott; 2 step-sons, Eban F. Kea of Ayden, North Carolina and Jonathan A. Kea of Durham, North Carolina; 2 brothers, Elmer Hartness "Jr." of Dermott and Bobby Hartness of Little Rock; a sister, Diane Thompson of Columbia, Louisiana and one granddaughter, Lauren Ashley Hartness and a grandson, Braxton Kea. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m, Friday at Bishop Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Saturday, January 15, 2011, at Temple Baptist Church in Dermott with Bro. Larry Donaldson and Bro. Jake Davis officiating. Private graveside will follow in Dermott Cemetery under the direction of Bishop Funeral Home of Lake Village.
