Betty Jeanne Cochran Barge

On January 16th, our beloved mother, Betty Jeanne Cochran Barge, passed away. Mom was born on December 11, 1926 in Eudora, Arkansas, to Bourke and Georgia Harrison Cochran. She was 84. Betty grew up in Eudora and graduated from Eudora High School in 1944 where she was homecoming queen her senior year. She and her sister, Virginia, went to college in Fayetteville. They traveled by train to get there, it was exciting! She graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1948 with a degree in Business Administration. On March 27, 1948, she married Carroll Allen Barge, a decorated army air corps pilot. They were married for 50 years. During the early 1950's, Betty taught high school in Pine Bluff, but soon quit to raise a family. Later, she taught at Village High School in Village, Arkansas. Betty was a member of the DAR and the NEA. Besides her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll A. Barge, sister-in-law Christine McDonald of Magnolia and brother-in-law, Hoyt Neill of Little Rock. Survivors include her daughter, Janet (Bob) Pack and their children Elizabeth and Robert Pack of Lonoke; Allen (Ann) Barge of Greenfield, Tenn.; Patrick (Melinda) Barge and their children, Stephen, Caitlin and Shaughn Barge of Lake Cherokee, Texas and one great-grandchild, Alexa Barge of Kilgore, Texas. Also included are her sister, Virginia Neill of Little Rock, niece, Melinda (Chris) de la Vergne and their children, Virginia and Philip of New Orleans and nephew Randy Neill of Little Rock. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Bailey Funeral Home in Magnolia, Ark. Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Wednesday at First United Methodist Church followed by burial at Magnolia Memorial Park under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home.
