Carl Lueken

Carl "Hoot" Lueken, 84, of Helena, Arkansas passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2011 in Maumelle, Arkansas. Mr. Lueken was born July 15, 1926 at Helena to the late Ethel and John Lueken. Mr. Lueken attended Sacred Heart and graduated from Subiaco Academy. He volunteered for duty with the U.S. Naval Amphibious Forces during WWII, serving in the Pacific Battle of Okinawa and China. He attended Arkansas Tech where he met and married Charlene Hutchison on December 21, 1947. They returned to Helena where they owned and operated a popular restaurant named the In-B-Tween for 20 years. He left the restaurant business to work for the Arkansas Employment Security Department and retired in 1991 as manager. Mr. Lueken joined American Legion Post 41 in 1945 and remained an active member until his death. He served the post as commander and was a member of WWII Survivor's Club. Mr. Lueken was very active in his church. He served as an Eucharist minister for several years with the Knights of Columbus. He served on the parish council and on the Board of Directors for Subiaco Alumni association. He also served on the Executive Board for City of Helena Parks Commission. He was past president of Central High Booster Club working with Coach Hogue, Coach Merrill and Coach Woodie. Mr. Lueken liked to fish as a pastime and loved taking his grandchildren. Mr. Lueken is survived by his wife, Charlene Lueken of Helena; three daughters, Patsy Robbins and her husband, Neil of Helena, Becky Farmer and her husband, Paul of Maumelle, and Denise Blankenbeker of Little Rock, Arkansas ; one son, Kurt Lueken and his wife, Lynn of Sherwood, Arkansas; eight grandchildren, Blake Robbins and wife, Lisa, Pieper Noel and husband, Jason, Corey Johns, Brett Johns, Micah Haupt and husband, Will, Erika Lueken, Molly Blankenbeker and Max Blankenbeker. He also leaves three great-grandchildren, Carson and Bogan Robbins and Avery Noel. Funeral services for Carl "Hoot" Lueken will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 2, 2011 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Helena. Visitation will be held at 6 p.m., Friday, July 1, 2011 at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home. Rosary will follow at 7 p.m. Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Helena. Active pallbearers are Neil Robbins, Paul Farmer, Blake Robbins, Corey Johns, Brett Johns and Max Blankenbeker. Honorary pallbearers are Gary Kerby, Billy Kerby, Jackie Kerby, Michael Smith, Johnny Ragsdale, Whit Lueken, Milton Lueken, Knights of Columbus and members of the American Legion Post 41.
