Preston Carpenter, 77, passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2011 in Tulsa, Okla. Born in Hayti, Mo. on January 24, 1934 to Verba & Edna Carpenter. Preston was a graduate of Muskogee High School in 1952 where he met his future bride of 58 years, Evelyn "Jeanne" Eytchison. He was a 1956 University of Arkansas graduate where he lettered in Football and Baseball. He played in the 1955 Cotton Bowl, East/West Shrine Game and College All Star Game. He was the 1956 #1 draft choice for the Cleveland Brown. He spent 12 years from 1956-1967 as an all pro receiver in the NFL. Member of Arkansas Sports Hall of Honor and Hall of Fame. Preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Lewis Carpenter. Survived by his wife of 58 years, Jeanne (Eytchison) Carpenter; three sons, Scott, Bruce, and Todd Carpenter; two sisters-in-law, JoAnn Lee and Sue Carlow; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Memorial service will be 7 p.m., Thursday, July 7, 2011 at Moore's Southlawn Chapel. Family suggests contributions may be made to Clarehouse, 7617 S. Mingo, Tulsa, Okla. 74133.
