Ronald E. Dobbs

Ronald E. Dobbs, age 61, of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, passed away July 20, 2011. Ron was born on January 14, 1950, in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, the son of Fred Edward Dobbs and Madgie Ione Dobbs. He was a graduate of Walnut Ridge High School. After high school, Ron attended Southern Baptist College, receiving an Associates of Arts Degree. He then attended Arkansas State University for two years, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1971. He married Catherine Bellingrath of Newport, Arkansas in 1972. Ron returned to Arkansas State University and received a Bachelor of Science in Education degree in 1976. He then taught for two years. Following his stint as a teacher, Ron changed vocations to the insurance industry where he was a loss control consultant for 35 years, serving several companies such as Farmer's Insurance Group, Sentry Insurance, Integral Insurance, John Deere Insurance, and Deep South Insurance. Ron and Catherine have three sons. Catherine passed away in 2004. Ron remarried Joyce Slaughter of Fairfield Bay in 2006. Joyce has three daughters and six grandchildren. Ron was a member of Fairfield Bay Baptist Church and was ordained as a deacon at Little Rock's First Baptist Church. He also served as a board member for the Arkansas Baptist School System. He is survived by his mother, Madgie Ione Scarlett of Longview, Texas, three sons, Matthew Edward Dobbs, Michael Bellingrath Dobbs and Jonathan Blake Dobbs, three step-daughters, Machelle Johnson and husband Daris Johnson, Bridgette Peek, Raquenta Garrett and her husband Mike Garrett, six grandchildren Gabby, Ben, Alex, Megan, Derek and Faith, as well as many loved ones and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Fred Edward Dobbs and his wife of 32 years, Catherine. Visitation was held 6-8 p.m., July 21, 2011 at the Fairfield Bay Baptist Church. Funeral services were held 10 a.m., July 22, 2011 at the Fairfield Bay Baptist Church with Pastor Ken Reece officiating. Interment was at Pine Crest Memorial Park in Alexander, Arkansas.
