Barbara Jean Lee

Barbara Jean Lee peacefully passed away early the morning of Wednesday, May 4, 2011, in Leesburg, Va., after a brief illness. She was born on Feb. 7, 1930, in Mansfield, Ark. Barbara attended Arkansas Tech. She was a long-time resident of Fort Smith and served Fort Smith well. She taught kindergarten at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church, and at the Bost School. She was an active Realtor in Fort Smith and the owner of Lee and Associates, a successful real estate company. Barbara is most loved as a Girl Scout leader and a fun-loving adventurous mother, grandmother and great grandmother and cherished being a member of the "Ladies of Wellington Way." She was a long standing member of First United Methodist Church and the Builders Sunday School Class, Fort Smith Board of Realtors, Fianna Hills Country Club and PEO. Barbara moved to Leesburg, Va. in 2008 to be near family. Barbara was married to the late Richard Henry Lee on Dec. 23, 1950 until his death in 1978. She was later married to Issac "June" Talkington in 1993 until his death in 2002. Barbara is survived by her children, Lisa and Jerry Geren of Urbana, Ill., Rick and Shannon Lee of Park City, Utah, and Monte and Lori McCullough of Ashburn, Va. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Lauren Geren Trusler and husband David, of Mahomet, Ill.; Richard Lee Geren and wife Megan of The Woodlands, Texas; Jordan Geren of Urbana, Ill., Anna Katherine Lee and Richard Jackson Lee of Park City, Utah, Whit McCullough and wife, Kelly of Leesburg, Va.; Allan McCullough and wife, Kim, of Vienna, Va. She also had four great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, Joe Bull, and his wife Nan of Russellville, Ark. and LM Bull of Pocatello, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her parents, L.M. Bull and Beulah Simpson Bull of Mansfield, Ark. and her two brothers: Allan Simpson Bull and John Bryan Bull. Barbara had many friends and especially loved her nieces and nephews. A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, May 6 at 11 a.m. at Leisure World, Potomac Ridge Building, Leesburg, Va. A graveside service will be on Friday, May 20, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the National Cemetery in Fort Smith, Ark. Following the service, the family will receive visitors at the Holiday Inn Convention Center. Memorials may be sent to the PEO Chapter BD Scholarship Fund in memory of Barbara Lee.
