Retreat Hell!! Cpl. William Loyd (Bill) Howard, United States Marine Corps, A Company 7th Battalion 1st Division. Bill was a member of Marines that were encircled near the Chosin Reservoir in North Korea by overwhelming communist forces. The Marines fought a fierce and bloody rear action battle during some of the worst winter weather that man can endure. This action earned them a glorious position in Military history and the title of "The Chosin Few". A resident of Beebe, he was born 22 October 1931 in Odessa, Missouri and he died Tuesday, May 10, 2011. His parents were Orville Reed Howard and Ola Ella Rainwater Howard of Newark, Arkansas. He graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1951. He was a truck driver for Transcon Lines of Oklahoma City for 25 years. He was a member of McArthur Drive Assembly of God. He is survived by his wife, Ann Gordon Howard; son, Bob Howard; daughter, Cheri Howard Wood; son-in-law, Rodney Wood; granddaughters, Sierra Wood and Casey Wood, all of Beebe. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, at Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe.
