Leonard Lee Alvis Jr., 84, of Pine Bluff, died Saturday, May 7, 2011, at his home. Mr. Alvis was born February 1, 1927, in Pine Bluff, to the late Leonard Lee and Margaret A. Way Alvis. He was reared and received his education in Pine Bluff, where he graduated from Pine Bluff High School in 1946. He also attended the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. Mr. Alvis also served in the National Guard. Mr. Alvis was the State Auditor for 13 years before retiring in 1990. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Pine Bluff, Quapaw Lodge #730, and the Jefferson County Stamp Club. He was also a 32nd Degee Mason and a Shriner. Mr. Alvis is survived by his wife, Jeannine Walters Alvis, whom he married July 9, 1946, in Memphis, Tennessee; son, Michael Jay Alvis of Little Rock; grandchildren, Mike Alvis, Jr. of Pine Bluff, Amber Alvis of Sacramento, California, Matt Alvis of Little Rock, Melodi Alvis of Gulfport, Mississippi, Heather Alvis of Arkansas, Chris Alvis of Tokyo, Japan, Taylor Alvis of Arkansas and Shannon Sanders of Sheridan; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Harry O. Alvis, and a son, Terry Lee Alvis, who passed away on December 25, 2005. The family will receive friends Friday, May 13, 2011, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Robinson's. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, May 14, 2011, 10 a.m., in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Reverends Gordon Topping and John Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery. The family would like to thank Robin Christman with Hospice Homecare.
