John Richard "Dick" Allen of Prattsville, Arkansas was born April 16, 1942 at Prattsville, the son of the late John and Carrie Abana Hope Allen. He was a member of Harmony Missionary Baptist Church, was one of the founders of Allen Brothers Farms, a member of the Grant County, Arkansas State, and National Cattlemens' Associations, a member of the Grant County Democratic Committee, former member of the Grant County Quorum Court, as well as the Prattsville Volunteer Fire Department, the Grant County Chamber of Commerce and the Grant County Bank Board. His family was chosen to receive the honor of Grant County Farm Family of the year several years ago. "Uncle Dick", as he was known to practically everyone in Prattsville, had a great love for his community and it's people. He had a giving heart and tried to do anything he could to help people in need, particularly young people. Mr. Allen died Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at his home at the age of 69. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Frank Allen and Bill Allen. Survivors; Sister and brother-in-law, Mary Lou and Richard Harper of Prattsville; sister-in-law, Robin Allen of Prattsville; Nieces and nephews, Georgia Hicks, Carol Nichols, Teri Kennerly, Sandy Archer, John R. Allen, Abana Nevens, Hope Allen, Sarah Beth Lane, DeMee Allen and Jamey Allen; 15 great-nieces and nephews; four great-great-nieces and nephews; K-9 companion, his Boston Terrior,"Buddy"; and a host of friends. Funeral services will be 6 p.m., Sunday, May 22, 2011 at Harmony Missionary Baptist Church in Prattsville with Bro. Neal Pumphrey and Bro. Shawn Hill officiating. A private family burial will take place in Philadelphia Cemetery at Prattsville, prior to the service. Visitation: Saturday, 6-8 p.m. at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home in Sheridan.
