Cyrus Richard "Cy" Huie

Cyrus Richard "Cy" Huie died peacefully May 22, 2011 in Santa Maria, California after a long illness. Mr. Huie was born in Arkadelphia, Arkansas on July 17, 1940 to Cyrus Richard Huie and Frances Huie. He graduated with a B.A. from Henderson State University in Arkadelphia. Mr. Huie made his career in public service, following family tradition. He taught high school civics in Missouri before becoming an Inspector with the Dallas (Texas) Fire Department. After his retirement, Mr. Huie devoted himself to his lifelong interests--music, fishing, golf, and investments. Mr. Huie is survived by his sister, Diane Huie Balay, and his niece, Kitty Genge, both of Santa Maria, Calif., nephews Richard Balay of Westlake Village, Calif., and Michael Balay of Edina, Minn., and eight grandnieces and grandnephews. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, May 28, at First United Methodist Church, Santa Maria, Calif. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the United Methodist Relief Fund or the Santa Maria Food Bank.
