Sarah Moseley Fountain passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at Arkansas Hospice Hospital. Mrs. Fountain was born on June 06, 1927 in Camden, Ark. She graduated from Camden High School with honors in 1945. She attended the University of Houston where she was an honor student. After receiving a Bachelor's degree in English and Music/Drama, she went on to study at the Irvin School of Drama in New York City. She did graduate work at UCA, the University of Oklahoma and the University of Mississippi. Mrs. Fountain came back to Arkansas to teach and start a family. Her teaching career began in Camden, Arkansas. In 1957, she moved with her family to Little Rock where she landed a job at Little Rock Central High. She went through the integration crisis and continued to teach at Little Rock Central High until 1968. Mrs. Fountain later taught English at both UALR and the University of Central Arkansas. In the early 1960's she joined the STOP committee and lobbied to get the public schools re-opened. She served on one of the first Arts committees when the Arkansas Arts Center opened, at that time as well Mrs. Fountain worked to preserve Arkansas history and culture. She wrote two anthologies of Arkansas literature, Arkansas Voices and Arkansas Folklore. She complied and annotated an uninterrupted correspondence between two sisters spanning a century. This correspondence gave an introspective look at Arkansas life in the 1800's and early 1900's. This book was called "Sisters, Seeds and Cedars". She was also a member of one of the first higher education reform committees put together by Governor Bill Clinton and First Lady Hillary Clinton. Mrs. Fountain was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Ruth Moseley of Camden, Ark. She is survived by her husband, Gordon B. Fountain, Jr. whom she married on August 21, 1949, they were married 61 years. She is also survived by two daughters, Della Curran and husband, George of Conway, Ark. and Margaret Norton and husband, Earl of Little Rock, Ark.; three grandchildren, Michaela Curran, Jeffrey Curran and Brian Curran all of Conway, Ark. and Philip and Jamie Norton of Little Rock and their daughters, Ava and Vivian. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, June 2, 2011 in the Chapel of First United Methodist Church in Little Rock, Ark.
