Doris Jeanne LaVasque Melton

Doris Jeanne LaVasque Melton, 83, of Naples, Fla., passed away on Nov. 13, 2011. She was born on Nov. 28, 1927, in Morrilton, Ark., to Clyde Payne and Theresa Florence Vance LaVasque. Jeanne graduated from Will Rogers High School in Tulsa, Okla., and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Washington University in St. Louis, Mo. Jeanne worked as a commercial artist and portrait painter in Russellville, Ark., New York City, and Dallas, Texas. She also published a book of poetry after she moved to Naples in 1990. Jeanne is survived by her daughter, Jill Horrall of Avondale, Ariz., and step-son, James Melton. Interment of Jeanne's urn will take place in Russellville, Ark. at a later date.
