Frances Louise Eppes Devereux

Frances Louise Eppes Devereux, age 93, of Forrest City, Arkansas, formerly of Widener, Arkansas, passed away November 26, 2011, at Willowbend Nursing Home. Mrs. Devereux was born April 2, 1918, in Forrest City, the elder of twin daughters born to Robert E. Eppes and Nellie Bly Delano Eppes, and was a life long resident of St. Francis County. She graduated as valedictorian from Forrest City High School, graduated from Hendrix College and did post graduate work at both the University of Wisconsin and University of Colorado. Her chosen interest was children, particularly early childhood development. She taught school in the Newcastle Community and worked at the First National Bank of Eastern Arkansas prior to her marriage to Arthur Louie Devereux, now deceased. She was his loving wife for 65 years. She was retired from Arkansas Social Services where she licensed day care centers for the state. She is survived by one brother, Robert "Bob" Eppes of Naples, Florida, two daughters; Amie Katherine Devereux, and husband, Lloyd S. "Buddy" Barnett, of Widener, and Fran Devereux Smith of Ft. Worth, Texas, one son, Arthur Louie Devereux Jr. of Cherry Valley, grandchildren, Leslie Gordon, and husband, Tom, and sons, Will and Luke, of Fayetteville, Allen Devereux, and wife, Dana, and daughters; Isabella and Sophia, of Jonesboro, Nick Devereux, and wife, Emily, and sons; Stephen and John Thomas, also of Jonesboro, Shelley Hand, and husband, Justin, and son, Noah, of Memphis, Beau Barnett, and wife, Kara, and daughters; Jacquelyn and Morgan, of Arlington, Virginia, and Amy Millner, and husband Matt, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, and daughter, Caroline Butler, currently of her grandparent's household in Widener. She also leaves a host of beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Geneva Howerton of Clinton, Arkansas. Services for Mrs. Devereux will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Forrest City, 11 a.m., Saturday, December 3, 2011 with burial in Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday evening, December 2, 2011, at the First United Methodist Church, 6 till 8 p.m., with Stevens Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
