Clark W. Hastings, Sr.

Col. Clark Waverly Hastings Sr. (U.S. Army, Retired) of Jacksonville was born Oct. 22, 1931 in Sikeston Mo. to the late Clark and Royce Hastings. He passed away on Oct. 4 at St. Vincent Infirmary after a brief illness. He graduated from Methodist College in Fayetteville, North Carolina with a degree in political science. He is also a graduate of the Infantry Officers' Candidate School, Signal Officers' Advance Course, Command and General Staff College, Air War College, and the Airborne School. Col. Hastings was a career military officer who with his family traveled extensively living in many different states and European countries during his military career spanning 1952-1983. Col. Hastings was inducted into the OCS Hall of Fame at Fort Benning, Georgia in 1981. After retirement he served as a Jacksonville City Commissioner and was past president of the Jacksonville Sertoma Club. Col. Hastings was an avid hunter, fisherman, and golfer who enjoyed living life to the fullest extent possible. Col. Hastings was preceded in death by his wife, Joline Tiner Hastings, two grandsons, Clark Hastings III and Matthew Hastings, and a brother, Ray Hastings. Survivors: sons, Clark W. (Buddy) Hastings Jr. and wife Carol; Steven K. Hastings and wife Robin, grandson, Matthew Johnson (Jill); great-grandson, Mason Johnson; sister, Dolores Mayabb, special friend, Angela Vent, and his beloved dog Millie and grand-dog Joey. He will be lovingly remembered and the Chief will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Memorials may be made to the Pulaski County Humane Society. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Thursday, October 6, 2011 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Friday, October 7, 2011 at Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home with Dr. Steve Walter officiating.
