Louis Earle Basil

Louis Earle Basil, 70, went to be with the Lord on October 17, 2011 after a long battle with Parkinson 's disease. He was born on January 15, 1941 in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated high school in Rock Falls, Ill. After graduation, he began work at the steel mill and later went on to work for the railroad, until he was drafted into the military. He proudly served his country as a member of the 1st Infantry Division and also played trombone in The Big Red 1 marching band. After being honorably discharged from the military, he worked for the railroad and was transferred to Arkansas where he worked for the Union Pacific Railroad until he retired. He was a member of Indian Hills Church. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and friends and enjoyed his hobby - being an amateur radio operator. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas Basil and Lois Golding Basil, and his sister, Patricia Guenther. Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 49 years, Alice Yoeckel Basil, their children, Dana Smith (and son-in-law Tim Smith) and Nick Basil (and daughter-in-law Kim Basil), his sister, Janice Cradit, and his grandchildren, Austin Smith, Bradyn Smith, Corbin Basil and Cavin Basil and many other relatives and friends. A memorial to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, October 22 at 10 a.m. at Indian Hills Church, 6801 John F. Kennedy Blvd., North Little Rock, Ark. 501-835-2838.
