Bonnie Jean Wilson

Bonnie Jean Baird Wilson of Glen Rose, ascended to be present with the Lord on Sept. 4, 2011 at the age of 70. She was born April 17, 1941 in Kansas City, Mo. She resided in Tulsa, Okla., until age 12, and then lived in Shaker Heights (Cleveland), Ohio until she married her husband at age 22. She lived in Malvern (Glen Rose) the remaining years. She attended Bowling Green State University in Ohio, and was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. She belonged to the Arkansas Quilter's Guild, the American Quilter's Society, and the National Quilter's Association. She entered many of her professional quilted works in national competitions, and was recognized for her quilting abilities. In 1988, the then Governor Bill Clinton purchased six of her quilted wall hangings to present as gifts to dignitaries on his business trips to the Far East. In 1990, after her first battle with cancer she donated a large wall quilt to St. Vincent's Infirmary in Little Rock, Ark., which hangs in their oncology admissions area. Over the years, she was actively involved in Glen Rose Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent, assistant church treasurer, church financial committee, and was the church organist from 1972 until 2004. She was one of the many members representing their church in the annual cancer walk, "Relay for Life" in Malvern, while she was still able to participate. She married George W. Wilson in 1963 and is survived by her husband of Malvern (Glen Rose); their son Kevin R. Wilson and his wife Jennifer, and two granddaughters, Sydney and Tristen, all of Lonsdale, Ark. She is also survived by her sister Lynn Shaw and husband Russ, of Aurora, Ohio; her brother Scott and wife Jan, of Chelsea, Mich.; and three nieces and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Eleanor Bloor Baird. Memorial services will be held at Glen Rose Missionary Baptist Church on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011 at 10 a.m. Ministers will be Bro. Gary Copeland and Bro. Dennis McClintic. Visitation and fellowship will be following the service. Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Glen Rose Baptist Church Building Fund, or to the American Cancer Society.
