Mary Joyce McKinney Carter

Mary Joyce McKinney Carter, 89, of Marion, Ark., passed away on Sept. 9, 2011. She was born April 13, 1922, in Memphis, Tenn., to the late Cosby Q. and Kathleen N. McKinney and raised in Crawfordsville, Ark. She graduated from Crawfordsville High School and attended Sullins College in Bristle, Va., and Stephens College in Columbus, Mo., eventually to graduate from the University of Arkansas where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She leaves behind her loving husband of 55 years, William Sanders "Sully" Carter of Marion, Ark.; two sons, William Sanders "Sandy" Carter Jr. (Ann) of Jackson, Miss., and Scott McKinney Carter (Linda) of Memphis, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Kate, Rebecca and Ross of Jackson, Miss., and Suzanne and Will of Memphis, Tenn. The family would like to thank Jean Chestnut McCoy for the years of friendship and help and her loyal caregivers for over a year, Denise, Donna, Evelyn and Janine, also thanks to all the hospice worker for their help and care.
