Freda C. Johnston

Mrs. Freda C. Johnston passed from this world on April 14, 2012. Mrs. Johnston was the widow of James C. Johnston. She leaves two sons, Jere (Kathy) Johnston of Monticello and Ellis (Catherine) Johnston of West Memphis. She also leaves three grandchildren, Jay Johnston of Hamburg, Leslie Lovenstein (Austin) of Sherwood, Sarah Johnston of Little Rock, and one great grandchild, Jay Alan Johnston Jr. of Hamburg. She is survived by one brother, Fred Crum of The Woodlands, Texas and three sisters, Janice Crum of West Memphis, Catherine Wilson of Houston, Texas and May Cary of Oklahoma City, Okla. Mrs. Johnston was the valedictorian of Helena High School and in adult life she worked as a clerk at the West Memphis Public Library for 14 years. She was a longtime league bowler and was an officer in the West Memphis Friends of the Library. After retirement, she and her husband traveled and performed volunteer work at various state and national parks. Mrs. Johnston was an active member of the Third Church of Christ Scientist in Memphis, Tenn. Visitation will be held Monday, April 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Roller Citizens Funeral Home in West Memphis. Graveside services will follow at a later date.
